Dawn Wells and Erin Murphy: Next on TVC

Tuesday, September 30th, 2014

Actress and author Dawn Wells and actress and TV host Erin Murphy will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Most of us know Dawn Wells as Mary Ann Summers on Gilligan’s Island, the classic TV series created by Sherwood Schwartz that celebrates its 50th anniversary on television this fall. But Dawn’s career beyond television includes appearances in more than sixty stage productions (ranging from Noel Coward to Neil Simon), as well as such motion pictures as Winterhawk, plus she is an accomplished, author, teacher, producer, motivational speaker and the chairwoman of the Terry Lee Wells Foundation.

Dawn’s new book, What Would Mary Ann Do? A Guide to Life, takes the question “Ginger or Mary Ann” a step further by showing readers how Mary Ann would respond to the various changes in today’s culture that face women of all ages, while also showing that Good Girls Do Finish First. The book also includes memories of Dawn’s life and career before and after Gilligan’s Island, while also paying tribute to each of her six fellow cast members. Dawn Wells will join us in our second hour.

Dawn Wells will be appearing at the Barnes and Noble in Reno, NV on Wednesday, Oct. 8, as well as the Chiller Theater Expo Oct. 24 thru Oct. 26 in Parsippany, NJ, the “Charity Island” event sponsored by Charity Never Fail-eth in Mesa, AZ on Saturday, Nov. 15, and the Santa Monica Public Library in Santa Monica, CA on Saturday, Nov. 22. For moreinformation on these and other events, go to Dawn-Wells.com or Facebook.com/TheRealMaryAnn.

Also joining us this week joining us later in this hour will be Erin Murphy, the actress known many of us as Tabitha Stephens on Bewitched. After a busy career as a child star, Erin went on to work as a casting director, makeup artist, fashion stylist, acting teacher, motivational speaker, stunt double (for Oscar nominee Virginia Madsen) and entrepreneur before eventually finding her true niche is a celebrity host.

Erin has a new Web series coming up (The Tragical History Tour), plus she is the co-owner ofSlim Chillers, a company that sells martini-flavored popsicles with only 100 calories. We’ll ask her about those projects (and, of course, a question or two about her years on Bewitched) when Erin Murphy joins us in our first hour.

Plus: Tony Figueroa and Donna Allen with an expanded edition of This Week in TV History that includes a look at the 50th anniversary of The Addams Family and The Munsters… two shows that are often lumped together, despite the fact that each was very different.

Connie Stevens: Next on TVC

Tuesday, September 9th, 2014

Singer, actress and film director Connie Stevens will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

One of the few artists to conquer the worlds of movies, television, music, Broadway and Las Vegas before launching an equally successful cosmetics empire, Connie Stevens recently returned to motion pictures as a film director, including A Healing, a documentary about a group of Red Cross nurses who return to their workplace in Vietnam, and Saving Grace B. Jones, the critically acclaimed dramathat is based on a traumatic event that Connie witnessed when she was a young girl. We’ll ask Connie what drew her to film directing, as well as talk about her experience working alongside Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, George Burns, Bobby Darin and other legendary performers. Connie Stevens will join us in our second hour.

Connie Stevens will be appearing at this year’s MidAtlantic Nostalgia Convention, Sept. 18-Sept. 20 at the Hunt Valley Wyndham in Hunt Valley, Maryland. For more information, go to www.MidAtlanticNostalgiaConvention.com.

Phil Gries will join us in our first hour as The Sounds of Lost Television remembers pioneering television broadcaster Les Crane. The first national late night talk show host to compete against The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, Les Crane first left his mark as a radio talk show host for KGO-AM in San Francisco before moving on to WABC-TV in New York, where he really came into prominence. The original “bad boy of late night television” — and, in some respects, a forerunner of “shock radio,” in that he often tackled such then-taboo topics as homosexuality and prayer in school — Crane’s popular New York talk show also paved the way for The Phil Donahue Show and, later, Oprah Winfrey.

Also this week: Tony Figueroa and Donna Allen will say Happy Birthday to Bob Newhart as part of This Week in TV History.
