Ida Lupino and The Great One: Next on TVC

Tuesday, April 28th, 2015

Author Mary Ann Anderson will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision RadioKSAV.org.

Mary Ann Anderson will return for Part 2 of our conversation on the life and career of pioneering actress and directorIda Lupino. Mary’s books include Ida Lupino: Beyond the Camera, the story of Ida’s life and career (in Ida’s own words),The Making of The Hitch-Hiker: Illustrated, a behind-the-scenes look at the classic 1953 film noir thriller directed by Ida Lupino, and Portrait of a Soap Star: The Emily McLaughlin Story.

We’ll talk about Ida’s work in television, plus we’ll hear more of the 1991 interview with author A.M. Sperber(one of the last interviews that Ida Lupino gave). Mary Ann Anderson will join us in our second hour.

This week’s show will also include an encore presentation of Phil Gries’ look at Jackie Gleason, the short-lived prime time talk show that the Great One hosted on CBS in 1961. Though the series came about by accident (following the disastrous one-night run of Gleason’s game show, You’re in the Picture), Jackie Gleason showed that Gleason was as adept a conversationalist as he was a comedian.

All this, plus This Week in TV History and a new DVD report. It’s a full program as always, and we certainly hope you’ll join us.

The Fight for Vietnam’s Firebase Kate: Next on TVC

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015

Author, journalist and screenwriter Marvin J. Wolf will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Marvin J. Wolf is the author or co-author of seventeen books, including Beating the Odds (the memoirs of ABC founding president Leonard Goldenson), Fallen Angels (an inside look at famous crimes that took place in Hollywood), and the Rabbi Ben mystery novel series, while his credits as a screenwriter include the made-for-TV movie Ladies Night.

Marv’s latest book, Abandoned in Hell: The Fight for Vietnam’s Firebase Kate, is a gripping account of a bloody five-day battle in the central highlands of Vietnam that was led by a young captain named William Albracht. It is a very cinematic story that speaks to the transformational power of individual heroism. It is also a story that, until recently, very few people knew about. Marvin J. Wolf will join us in our first hour.
