Imagine, If You Will: Bob Crane, John Candy and Rod Serling: Next on TVC

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015

Authors Robert Crane and Anne Serling will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

This week’s show will feature Part 2 of our conversation with Robert Crane, the eldest son of Bob Crane, and the co-author of CRANE: Sex, Celebrity and My Father’s Unsolved Murder, a memoir of growing up with Bob Crane as a father before, during and after Hogan’s Heroes that also provides an account and commentary of the investigation and prosecution of the Bob Crane murder case, from the perspective of the Crane family. We will take you back to the events of June 29, 1978, when Bob was summoned to the crime scene in Scottsdale, Arizona and identified his father’s body — but we’ll also ask about the years in which Bob worked with, and became good friends with, comedian John Candy. We will play Part 2 of our conversation with Robert Crane in our second hour.

Also this week: Sunday, June 28 marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Rod Serling. With that in mind, we will mark the occasion by replaying our conversation from May 2013 with Rod’s daughter, Anne Serling, author of AS I KNEW HIM: My Dad, Rod Serling.

Most conversations about Rod Serling these days to focus on him being as a creative force… an entity, if you will. Rarely, if at all, do we think of Rod Serling as a person — a real live, flesh and blood human being who was a loving husband and a devoted father who played on the floor with his dogs, had nicknames for everyone in the family, liked to watch The Flintstones and pull practical jokes, and had a laugh that was as infectious as his zest for life itself. That’s the image of Rod Serling that Anne evokes in her book. Very close to her father, she was devastated by his death but eventually overcame her grief, partially with the help of The Twilight Zone. We will replay our conversation with Anne Serling during our first hour.

REMINDER: Robert Crane has provided us with an autographed copy of CRANE: Sex, Celebrity and My Father’s Unsolved Murderas a giveaway to one lucky listener. If you’d like to like to win that free copy, let us who know who YOU would cast in a movie version of Hogan’s Heroes. Life with Bob Crane: Before, During and After Hogan’s Heroes: Next on TVC

Tuesday, June 16th, 2015

Author, journalist and screenwriter Robert Crane — the eldest son of actor Bob Crane — will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision RadioKSAV.org.

Robert Crane’s life changed forever on the afternoon of Thursday, June 29, 1978, when he was summoned to the crime scene in Scottsdale, Arizona and identify his father’s body after Bob Crane was found brutally slain in an apartment in Scottsdale, Arizona — a murder that remains unsolved to this day. And while Robert Crane will always be linked to that tragedy, and the fallout surrounding the positive and sordid sides of his father, he has also carved out a successful career as a freelance author and journalist for such publications as Playboy, Oui and the Los Angeles Times, as well as six years as a publicist, producer and confidant to actor John Candy.

Robert Crane shares in his story in a new book, CRANE: Sex, Celebrity and My Father’s Unsolved Murder, which he co-authored along with his longtime collaborator, Christopher Fryer. A memoir of growing up with Bob Crane as a father before, during and after Hogan’s Heroes, the book not only provides a first-person account and commentary of how authorities handled the investigation and prosecution of the Bob Crane murder case, but tells the story of Robert’s own life, and his desire to find love and permanence in a life where those things continually slip away. Robert Crane joins us in the studio in our second hour.

Richard Anderson: At Last… a Memoir: Next on TVC

Tuesday, June 9th, 2015

Actor Richard Anderson and film historian Alan Doshna will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Most of you know Richard Anderson as either Oscar Goldman on The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman, Lieutenant Steve Drumm on the final season of Perry Mason, Dr. Richard Malcolm, the title character in The Night Strangler. But scroll down the list of Richard’s credits, and you’ll find that he not only appeared in some of the most iconic films of all time — including Forbidden Planet, Seven Days in May, John Frankenheimer’s Seconds, Martin Ritt’s The Long, Hot Summer and Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory— but he either worked with, got to know or otherwise crossed paths with some of the most iconic names in motion picture history… one of whom, by the way, played a pivotal role very early in Richard’s career.

Richard talks about these and other key moments in his life in Richard Anderson: At Last… A Memoir, a new book from BearManor Media that also goes behind the scenes of his years as a contract player with MGM, while also revealing some interesting things about Richard that you probably never knew before. Richard Anderson will join us in our second hour.

Also joining us this week will be actor, writer and film historian Alan Doshna. A contributor to such publications as Filmfax magazine, and the associate producer of the documentary The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood Jr., Al was the collaborator on Richard Anderson: At Last… A Memoir.

Plus: Tony Figueroa and Donna Allen will continue our look at long-running network and cable shows that recently ended, while Greg Ehrbar’s DVD report will include a personal remembrance of Jayne Meadows and Anne Meara.
