Gary Lockwood: Next on TVC

Tuesday, November 29th, 2016

Actor Gary Lockwood will join us on a brand new edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Most of you know Gary Lockwood as Frank Poole in 2001: A Space Odyssey, while Trekkies know him as Gary Mitchell in “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” the second pilot for the original Star Trek. He has also worked with such film and TV legends as Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda, Anthony Perkins, Joshua Logan, Elia Kazan, Elvis Presley, Natalie Wood, Basil Rathbone, Anthony Quinn, and, of course, Stanley Kubrick.

Gary was also a fixture on prime time television for more than four decades, including such classic shows as Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, Night Gallery, Mission: Impossible, The Six Million Dollar Man, Murder, She Wrote, and many of the crime dramas produced by Quinn Martin. In addition, he headlined his own series, The Lieutenant, the first series created by Gene Roddenberry. Gary Lockwood will join us in our second hour.

Remembering the Cool Ghoul: Next on TVC

Tuesday, November 8th, 2016

Screenwriter and producer Jonathan Tropper will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Our guest this week will be Jonathan Tropper, the co-creator and executive producer of Banshee, and the author of six novels, two of which (This is Where I Leave You and One Last Thing Before I Go) he has adapted for the big screen. Though Banshee recently ended its four-year run on Cinemax, Jonathan has a few other projects in the works for HBO. We’ll ask him about that, and more, when he joins in our first hour.

Also this week: We’ll remember John Zacherle, the iconic New York horror movie host known who passed away on Oct. 27 at the age of 98. Known as The Cool Ghoul (a moniker he received from none other than Dick Clark), Zacherle influenced an entire generation of local TV horror movie hosts, including Svengoolie.

You might recall that we paid tribute to John Zacherle in January 2013 as part of the Sounds of Lost Television. We’ll replay that tribute in its entirety in our second hour.

Tributes to Jack Riley and Michael Gleason: Next on TVC

Tuesday, November 1st, 2016

We’ll remember actor Jack Riley and television/producer Michael Gleason on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

This week’s show will include an encore presentation of our January 2014 interview with Michael Gleason, the accomplished television writer/producer who died this past October 21 at the age of 78. Best known as the co-creator and executive producer of the long-running private eye series Remington Steele, Michael’s career in television also spans such genres as Westerns, comedy, made for TV movies, and miniseries, including such shows as Maverick, Peyton Place, Rawhide, Diagnosis Murder, Cannon, McCloud, Marcus Welby, M.D., The Six Million Dollar Man, Nash Bridges, Lois and Clark, Diagnosis Murder, Rich Man, Poor Man: Book Two and Sword of Justice. We’ll replay our conversation with Michael in its entirety in our second hour.

Also this week: We’ll remember the career of Jack Riley, the actor best known as Elliot Carlin, the one patient that Dr. Bob Hartley could never quote cure, on The Bob Newhart Show. As Bob Newhart himself once noted, whenever the writers on The Bob Newhart Show had a new neurosis that they wanted to introduce, they almost always gave it to Carlin “because Jack could do anything.” Jack Riley passed away on August 19 of this year, at the age of 80. We’ll pay tribute to his work in television, including his career as a voice artist, as part of our first hour.
