Remembering William Schallert: Next on TVC

Wednesday, December 28th, 2016

We will pay tribute to film and television actor William Schallert on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Our New Year’s weekend program will be dedicated to the memory of William Schallert, the prolific film and TV actor who passed away on Sunday, May 8 at the age of 93. Best known for playing Patty Duke’s dad, Nancy Drew’s dad, Gidget’s dad, Dobie Gillis’ teacher, and the Admiral on Get Smart, William Schallert also appeared in more than 100 feature motion pictures, including Lonely are the Brave, Charley Varrick, The Incredible Shrinking Man, Speedway, and Recount, plus countless other TV series over the past six decades, from Maverick, Perry Mason, Bewitched and the original Star Trek to such recent shows as 2 Broke Girls in 2014.

We’ll play highlights of our previous conversations with Bill in which we discussed not only his film and TV career, but his work with the Screen Actors Guild, his skill as a pianist and his early career on stage with the Circle Theater in Los Angeles.

Don Most, Guy Lombardo and Holiday TV Favorites: Next on TVC

Tuesday, December 20th, 2016

Singer/actor Don Most joins us for our annual holiday edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Singer, actor and director Don Most returns this week as part of our annual holiday program. Known around the world as Ralph Malph on Happy Days, Don is also an accomplished musical performer who continues to bring his live musical show celebrating his love of big band and swing music to different venues all over the country (including Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Catalina’s Bar and Grill in Hollywood, CA).

Don’s new single, “C’est Si Bon,” is not only available as a digital single now through iTunes, but is part of Don new Christmas album, Swinging Down the Chimney Tonight, which includes a heartfelt rendition of “The Christmas Song,” the Yuletide classic that Mel Torme essentially wrote for Nat King Cole. We’ll talk about Don’s love for the music of Torme and Cole, his upcoming CD, D Most: Mostly Swinging, and more, during our first hour.

This week’s show will also include an encore presentation of our roundtable discussion featuring Joanna Wilson about our favorite Christmas episodes and holiday TV specials. Joanna is the author of The Christmas TV Companion and Tis the Season TV. Then Phil Gries will join us in our second hour for our annual tribute to bandleader Guy Lombardo, with audio highlights from some of the first TV coverage of the ball drop at Times Square… including a rarely heard clip from New Year’s Eve 1965 featuring Howard Cosell.

Special Tribute to Kirk Douglas: Next on TVC

Tuesday, December 13th, 2016

We’ll celebrate the centennial birthday of screen legend Kirk Douglas on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Phil Gries will join us for an expanded edition of The Sounds of Lost Television that will pay tribute to Kirk Douglas, the legendary motion picture star who turned 100 years old last week. Though mostly known for his work on the big screen, Douglas was no stranger to television. Besides appearing frequently on late night talk shows and network variety specials, he starred in several notable made-for-TV movies late in his career, including Mousey (1974) and Amos (1985).

Phil has put together a special collection of rarely heard audio clips that showcases not only Douglas’ acting prowess, but his humanitarianism, his desire to seek social justice, his sense of humor and his love of singing. We hope you’ll join us for this special edition of the program.

Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

Singer/actress Gloria Loring will join us on a brand new edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

Known to fans of daytime television as Liz Chandler, the wealthy heiress she played on Days of Our Lives throughout the 1980s, Gloria Loring has also enjoyed a successful career as a singer, songwriter, and author, including “Friends and Lovers,” her duet with Carl Anderson that became a No. 1 record in 1986, and co-writing the lyrics to the theme songs for the classic TV series Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life (the latter of which she also sang, from the second season on). Plus she has written six books and released several CDs.

Gloria has a new CD out (A Playlist), plus another in the works. We’ll talk about that, as well as some of her other work in music and television, when she joins us in our second hour.
