Toni Tennille: Next on TVC

Grammy Award winner Toni Tennille and legendary Hollywood agent Budd Moss will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio,

Known to two generations as the effervescent half of Captain and Tennille ― the Grammy Award-winning pop duo that topped the charts throughout the ’70s and ’80s with such hits as “Do It to Me One More Time,” “The Way I Want to Touch You” and, of course, “Love Will Keep Us Together” ― Toni Tennille has also released numerous solo albums that celebrate her love of big band music and the Great American Songbook. In addition, she hosted her own syndicated daytime talk show, while her acting career includes appearances in many popular prime time series, as well as the lead role of Victoria Grant in the national stage tour of Victor/Victoria.

For more than four decades, of course, the image of Captain and Tennille was that of a happy, loving and seemingly unbreakable couple. Behind the scenes, however, Toni fought a lonely struggle against the controlling and often bizarre behavior of her emotionally inaccessible husband, Daryl Dragon. Toni talks about this for the very first time in a new book, Toni Tennille: A Memoir, a moving portrait that also depicts her childhood years growing up in the segregated South, her roots as a singer with the Auburn Knights Orchestra, the backstory of such popular songs as “Love Will Keep Us Together,” “Circles” and “Muskrat Love,” and the reason why The Captain and Tennille variety series only lasted one season, despite being a huge hit for ABC. Toni Tennille will join us in our second hour.

Toni Tennille will be presenting the Music Categories at this year’s Daytime Emmys Creative Arts ceremony, which will be held April 29 in Los Angeles. She’ll also be appearing at the Barnes and Noble at The Grove at Farmer’s Market in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 30 beginning at 4pm.

Also joining us this week will be Budd Burton Moss. Budd has not only spent more than fifty years as a high-powered Hollywood agent and manager, he himself is part of a family with deep roots in the motion picture industry: his father, Louis B. Moss, was a film editor at 20th Century Fox, while his uncle Sam Zimbalist was one of the great producers at MGM during the Golden Age of Hollywood. After originally aspiring to be a bullfighter and actor, Budd began his career as an agent in 1959, spending nine years learning the craft under the legendary Martin Baum before launching his own agency, The Burton Moss Agency, which is still active today.

Not only has Budd represented some of the brightest stars in film, television and sports over the past six decades, he had a hand in casting in many of the most iconic comedy and dramatic series in TV history. We’ll talk about some of Budd’s adventures in television when he joins us in our first hour.

Budd Moss has recently released his memoirs as a two-volume series: All I Got Was 10 Percent: What It’s Like to Be a (Famous) Hollywood Agent (Vol. I) and Hollywood: Sometimes the Reality is Better Than the Dream (Vol. II). He’ll be appearing at Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, on Saturday, April 23 beginning at 4pm.

This week’s show will also spotlight the career of actor/producer William Conrad as part of This Week in TV History.
