Joni Bovill, No Cameras Allowed, and the Gold Coast International Film Festival: Next on TVC

Actress and singer Join Bovill and filmmaker, playwright and author Julian David Stone will join us, plus we’ll take you behind the scenes of this year’s Gold Coast International Film Festival. All that and more this weekend on TV CONFIDENTIAL, airing Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org.

An accomplished singer and songwriter with deep roots in music, Joni Bovill plays Ida, the assistant to the Chief of Police, on the hit Amazon series, Bosch, while earlier this year she portrayed Reverend Yvette Flunder, the real-life pastor who proved to be a crucial ally for Bishop Carlton Pearson (the real-life evangelical minister played by Oscar winner Chiwetel Ejiofor) in the Netflix feature motion picture Come Sunday. Joni’s other film and TV credits include How to Get Away with Murder (where she played a judge, opposite another Academy Award winner, Viola Davis), Concussion (where she worked alongside Oscar nominee Will Smith), Shameless, 911, NCIS: Los Angeles, Survivor’s Remorse and The Bridge, plus she voiced a number of characters on the popular video game, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

Though Joni has been a performer for virtually her entire life, her career as an actress only began about ten years ago. We’ll ask Joni what led her to pursue acting, plus we’ll talk about her experience working with Davis, Ejiofor and Smith; her background in music; her approach to playing a real-life person such as Rev. Flunder (versus a fictional character); and more. Joni Bovill will join us in our second hour.

This week’s show will also include a return appearance by Julian David Stone. Julian’s latest book, No Cameras Allowed: My Career as an Outlaw Rock ’n’ Roll Photographer: 1981-1987, is a coffee table book featuring more than 250 photographs of some of the biggest rock ’n’ roll stars of the 1980s, including Prince, U2, the Police, David Bowie, R.E.M., the Ramones, Elvis Costello, the Talking Heads, the Grateful Dead, Joan Jett, and Bruce Springsteen. All of the photos in No Cameras Allowed were taken up close and personal, from the unique vantage point of the audience (and how the bands wanted the show to be seen). None of these photos have ever been published before—but that is only half the story. We’ll tell you why when Julian David Stone joins in our first hour.

Limited edition prints of the photographs featured in No Cameras Allowed are also available through JulianDavidStone.com.

Also this week: We’ll take a look at The Eighth Annual Gold Coast International Film Festival in Long Island, New York. A geographic region long steeped in motion picture history, the Gold Coast area, in many respects, was Hollywood even before Hollywood was Hollywood. We’re talk about that, and more, along with Regina Keller Gil, executive director of the Gold Coast Arts Center, and Caroline Sorokoff, director of this year’s festival.

The Eighth Annual Gold Coast International Film Festival runs Nov. 2-13, 2018 in Long Island, New York. Among the films on the calendar include the Long Island premieres of Deconstructing the Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour; The Great Buster, a new film by Peter Bogdanovich that celebrates the life and career of Buster Keaton; and Sinatra in Palm Springs, a documentary by Leo Zahn that explores Frank Sinatra’s deep attachment to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley, his primary home for nearly fifty years. For tickets and more information on these and other films, call (516) 829-2570 or visit GoldCoastFilmFestival.org.

Plus: In light of the recent passing of actor, comedian Will Jordan, the actor and comedian best known not only for his uncanny impression of Ed Sullivan, but originating many of the mannerisms that came to be associated with Sullivan, we will play an excerpt from our five-part tribute to Jordan from 2017 as part of the Sounds of Lost Television. It’s a full program as always, and we certainly hope you will join us.
