Ida Lupino Beyond the Camera, plus a Tribute to Kathryn Joosten: Next on TVC

Authors Mary Ann Anderson and Wesley Hyatt will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio.

Born into a show business family, Ida Lupino did not want to be an actress: what she really wanted to do was write. After establishing herself as a performer in film and radio during the Golden Age of Hollywood, she became one of the first women to establish herself as a motion picture writer, producer and director in 1949 — a time when the movie industry was still predominately male-driven. And though she continued to act in films and television throughout the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, Ida also left her mark as a director in television, helming episodes of such classic shows as The Fugitive, The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, The Untouchables, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Rifleman, Have Gun, Will Travel, Bewitched and Gilligan’s Island.

Ida Lupino was small in stature, but her personality was larger than life. So it is only fitting that she is the subject of not one, but two new books by author Mary Ann Anderson: Ida Lupino Beyond the Camera, the story of Ida’s life and career, told in the actress’ own words, and Mr. Adams and Eve Illustrated, a behind-the-scenes look at the classic television series starring Ida Lupino and her second husband, Howard Duff. We’ll talk about Ida’s work in film and television, as well as the story of her often tumultuous relationship with Howard Duff, when Mary Ann Anderson joins us in our second hour.

Joining us during our first hour will be pop culture historian Wesley Hyatt. The author of many books on music and television, including Television’s Top 100 and The Billboard Book of No. 1 Adult Contemporary Hits, Wes will help us pay tribute to music icons Donna Summer and Robin Gibb, including their contributions to television and impact on the music industry.

Also this week: We will remember actress Kathryn Joosten by replaying our conversation with the Emmy Award-winning star of Desperate Housewives from November 2011.

All this, plus This Week in TV History. It will be a full program as always, and we certainly hope you’ll join us.
