The King of Jesters and The Wild, Wild West: Next on TVC

Authors Susan Kesler and David Koenig and longtime Hollywood stuntman Bob Herron will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision Radio.

Susan Kesler will join us in our second hour as we remember The Wild, Wild West, one of the most unusual Western series ever made on television, and an unique blend of action, adventure, humor and memorable characters (such as Dr. Miguelito Loveless) that is as much fun to watch today as it was when it originally ran on CBS back in the mid 1960s.

A devout enthusiast of 1960s television, Sue has also worked in television as a film editor for more than 30 years, including such top shows as The X Files, The Gilmore Girls, American Dreams, Crossing Jordan, Heroes and Falling Skies. Her book, The Wild, Wild West: The Series, takes you behind the scenes of the classic TV series starring Robert Conrad and Ross Martin, from the early struggles between CBS and series creator Michael Garrison, to the intricate disguises and splendidly choreographed action sequences that gave the show its mark.

And speaking of action sequences, also joining us in our second hour will be Bob Herron, one of the regular stuntmen on The Wild, Wild West, as well as Ross Martin’s double for almost the entire run of the show. Bob’s career as a stuntman and actor spans more than six decades, and hundreds of films and TV shows, including Star Trek, The Rockford Files, The Wild Bunch, Paint Your Wagon, Rio Bravo, Hawaiian Eye, Oklahoma Crude and Gunsmoke.

Also this week: We’ll keep an eye on the vessel with the pestle as we welcome David Koenig. David’s books on popular culture include Mouse Tales: A Behind the Ears Look at Disneyland and Danny Kaye: King of Jesters, the first in-depth examination of the stage, film, radio and TV career of Danny Kaye that also provides a glimpse into the private life of the legendary star of The Court Jester, White Christmas, Hans Christian Anderson and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The 2013-2014 television season marks the 50th anniversary of the premiere of The Danny Kaye Show on CBS television.

Featuring interviews with many of Kaye’s film, directors and screenwriters, plus his long-time co-star Virginia Mayo and virtually every major talent behind The Danny Kaye Show, David’s book not only explores Kaye’s often complicated relationship with his wife, Sylvia Fine, but chronicles his lifelong and his dedication to helping children around the world through his efforts with UNICEF. David Koenig will join us in our first hour.
